Our PBCA supported Frog Workshop held last night, was a great success with 33 people from across the area (Sunshine Beach & Verriedale to Coolum & Yaroomba ) in attendance.
Mary River Catchment's Eva Ford supported by colleague Alana produced an informative workshop which stirred tremendous interest & evoked lots of quality questions, especially from the children aged 7-13.
Of particular interest was a silver tadpole with sluggish development which stirred lots of interest from the audience & experts alike.
Following the workshop the group walked to Little Rufous Creek & across the oval to the edge of the Wallum & then down along Wallum Walk in search of frogs.
Toads were plentiful on the oval & feral fish in the creek. We did manage with Eva's eagle eyes to spot a keel back snake on the track, a toad attempting to swallow a live worm, a sleeping white cheeked honeyeater & eventually a tiny Wallum sedge frog.
While we listened in silence to identify frog calls, we were lucky to hear the calls of ground parrots in the Wallum to the north of the track.
A last visit to Little Rufous Creek as a final treat, rewarded us with two southern laughing treefrogs
All who participated enjoyed the opportunity to be out under the stars on a night of surprises & enriched wildlife knowledge.
